Xiomara Batin, Outreach and Community Engagement Manager
(she/her)
Xiomara is a Berkeley girl born in New Jersey, raised in a beautiful multiracial family that encouraged all the interests that popped into her head. Childhood experiences in the outdoors had a tremendous positive impact and she wants to cultivate opportunities for others to explore. Authentic engagement and genuine ally-ship with communities that have had limited access to outdoor spaces due to historical barriers, is an area of professional and personal importance to Xiomara and she feels passionate about being involved in advocacy in a variety of capacities.
She has worked in a variety of educational institutions and non profit organizations, with a through-line of working with the community to ensure that all have access to resources that will cultivate and encourage their success and always putting equity and inclusion at the center of supporting students and their families in all capacities. As a member of the GV team she has worked to cultivate partnerships with other organizations that share this viewpoint and are actively working to create more equitable access for all.
Along with working at GirlVentures, Xiomara is a team member at Inclusion Outdoors, an organization that works with multiple partners to address the barriers that keep all people from enjoying the outdoors. Xiomara is also a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the City of Berkeley Tuolumne Family Camp, a group that is committed to ensuring the camp is an inclusive and welcoming place. The BTC she remembers from attending as a child and then becoming a staff member as a teenager, had people of many different backgrounds, with a variety of levels of experience in the outdoors, and all with a shared love and appreciation for being in that incredible environment.
In her free time, she travels as much as she can throughout California and the world, reads anything from fantasy to historical fiction, is always down to go to thrift stores and look for treasures, and is continually seeking new trails and paths to explore.
