Program Evaluation

Outcomes/Evidence Based Evaluations

GirlVentures courses have the potential to be life changing for many girls because of their intensity and intentionality.  GirlVentures uses ongoing program evaluation to assess how well we meet the needs of each girl and the community and to provide information to continue and refine program quality as we expand.  GirlVentures' evaluation tool has been designed by Kara Sammet, a doctoral student from the Social and Cultural Studies in Education Department at U.C. Berkeley. Since 2005, Nina Roberts Ph.D., Assistant Professor at San Francisco State University in Recreation and Leisure Studies and GirlVentures Advisory Council member, has joined our team to review our ongoing evaluation practice.

Since 2002, GirlVentures has been working with seven outcome areas by which we can assess participating girls’ growth and thereby efficacy of our programs (listed below).

7 Courages:

  1. Self-Reliance / Self-care Courage
  2. Leadership Courage
  3. Creative Courage
  4. Expressive Courage
  5. Physical Courage
  6. Gender / Girl Pride Courage
  7. Cultural Courage

Results, from our evaluation data of 2001 – present, demonstrate that girls participating in our Summer Programs experience increase in their social competence, that is, their perception of their ability to succeed in new and different social situations.  Girls also demonstrated positive movement after completing a GirlVentures course in self-confidence and their perception of their leadership abilities
