Girls Advisory Board (GAB)
WHO CAN APPLY
GirlVentures alumnae who are in high school and have completed any of our multi-day courses are eligible to apply.
DESCRIPTION
We are looking for young leaders, girls with opinions, ideas, and a commitment to GirlVentures! This volunteer position is great for anyone who wants to gain leadership experience and build your resume for college. You will be part of a fun-loving group of 15 – 20 high school girls and women mentors who are dedicated to supporting our work and vision. You will laugh, learn, and grow; develop yourself as a speaker, facilitator, teacher and mentor. You will promote GirlVentures as an ambassador, and most of all you’ll have fun!
Responsibilities:
- A 9-month commitment during the school year. Most GAB members serve 3-4 terms throughout high school.
- Meet once a month on Sunday at the GV office. 80% attendance is required. Meetings are run by the elected Co-chairs (high school seniors who have served at least two terms already)
- Participate in the annual weekend overnight GAB retreat in the fall.
- Each month two girls will lead the other girls in an activity of their choosing and then receive feedback from the other girls on their “pros & grows” as a facilitator.
- Each girl on the board identifies a personal goal for developing herself as a leader. She pursues her personal goal in addition to contributing to the collective goals set by the group.
- Each girl has an adult mentor to support her with her personal goals, with whom she’ll maintain regular communication. The primary collective goal of 2011 was to host a girl-run Walk-A-Thon, which raised over $9000!
- Each girl is expect to do at least one outreach event; ideally reaching out to younger girls at her former middle school.
- Girls are encouraged to be a part of all GirlVentures community events as ambassadors and volunteers.
DATES
